6 FOODS THAT YOU CAN USE IN YOUR HAIR
Many foods that you can find in grocery stores are just as effective or even more effective than many other products that we buy for our hair. Here are a list of foods that are great for restoring, strengthening, and assisting in beautiful and healthy hair growth.
Maple Syrup or Black Strap Molasses
Molasses or maple syrup is a great source of potassium, iron, vitamins, and many other nutrients that will benefit our hair. Ingesting molasses daily is known to strengthen hair and nails, and help restore hair loss. Using molasses as a scrub in your hair will also help with strengthening, restoration, thickness, and helps add luster and shine to hair.
- Molasses hair scrub: Mix molasses with water to dilute, and massage onto your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic cap for 20 min. and wash and condition as you normally would.
Okra
Okra is a rich in Vitamins A, C, and K. It also contains Zinc, Copper, Calcium, Folate, Potassium, Thiamine, and many other nutrients. Okra can be used to give volume and body to your hair. It can be used as a hair gel, shampoo, and conditioner. Okra is known to promote healthy and quicker hair growth, strength, and shine.
- Okra hair treatment: boil okra until it begins to slime. Allow okra to cool, add essential and carrier oils, and scrub onto hair. Allow mixture to sit for 10-15 min. Rinse, shampoo and condition as usual.
- Okra hair gel: Boil okra until it reaches a slimy consistency. Strain okra to separate slime from okra. Allow Slime to cool in a container, add essential or carrier oils, and refrigerate.
Bananas
Bananas are a great source of vitamin C, B6, potassium, fiber, and magnesium, and are very beneficial for healthy hair and skin. Bananas can be used as a facial are hair mask. They enhance shine and growth, create manageability, help control dandruff, helps repair sun damage, moisturizes, and enhances glow. Using mashed bananas in your hair may sometimes be a little hard or messy to wash out, so using organic banana baby food is also an option.
- Banana hair mask recipe: 1 Jar of Banana baby food, and two tablespoons of EVOO. Mix these together for a conditioning treatment for your hair
Eggs
Eggs are high in protein. Protein as we know strengthens the hair follicles and strands, reducing breakage and shedding. Eggs are great for moisturizing hair, maintain the hair’s natural oils, help with thickening the hair, repair damaged hair, and give it shine and luster. Eggs can be used as a conditioner, protein treatment, or you can use the whites for a whipped hair mousse.
- Egg Conditioner recipe: Mix two eggs and 3 table spoons of olive oil and massage through hair.Keep in your hair for 10-15 min, rinse, and follow with a shampoo and/or conditioner.
Coconut Milk:
Coconut milk contains protein,fiber, carb.’s, fatty acids, amino acids, and many vitamins and minerals that are essential for healthy hair and skin.
Coconut fatty acids are found in many natural hair products on the market. Coconut milk is known to help with baldness, shedding, breakage, nourishment, and faster hair growth.
- For a hair wash, you can use coconut milk by itself by massaging it onto your scalp and hair, leaving it in for 15-20 min, and rinsing out with warm water.You can also create a hair scrub by mixing it with yogurt and applying it the same way.
- A facial mask/scrub with coconut milk can be made my blending oatmeal(uncooked) with coconut milk (adding yogurt is also an option) and applying it to your skin for about 10 min. and rinsing.
